Goodbye Instagram Hello Freedom…Pressgram

Being the WordPress industry, I often come across projects that are filled with mind-blowing awesome.

When I found that John Saddington, a mastermind at 8bit, launched a Kickstarter project for mobile camera lovers who also use WordPress, I hopped on the opportunity to help the project out.

You see, there is a problem that exists in mobile camera apps. Mainly being that there are so many terms of service (TOS) that confused the photographers. Pressgram’s intentions are to make its TOS very simple. They do not own any of your content and do not want to. So with that, please have a look at Pressgram.

As you can see, in Pressgram you will have the ability to take filtered photographs and send them straight to your website. From there you can share the photograph anywhere.

More on the problem and solution:

If you’re a fan of Instgram style mobile photography, and have a WordPess blog, I highly recommend that you check out the Pressgram project on Kickstarter and pledge even a $1 to help John bring the app to life.

Lost In Concert: Volume One

Lost In Concert is an online publication that focuses on covering touring live acts that make their way into the greater Chicagoland area. What started out as a hub for a group of friends, both photographers and writers, to cover concerts and festivals they could share with people who missed the show birthed a passion for live music. It soon turned into an addiction to try to catch as many live acts as possible–photographing and writing about the experience for other friends and music lovers so they can experience the same feelings that they get when witnessing the passion and dedication of these traveling artists live.

Once the online library of show coverage had grown into the hundreds it was clear that we had to create something more permanent and tactile to commemorate the project and the music scene at large. This book was the obvious choice. We wanted to make something that fans of music everywhere could leave on their coffee tables to show off their love of live music. A book that they or their friends could flip through for minutes or even hours. A piece of art that really represents how we feel when we experience live music and gets people excited. A collection of memories and moments that help us remember some of the best times of our lives.

We began by looking back through all of our formative coverage and selecting our favorites. With an idea of how many shows we wanted to include we were able to better gauge the size the book would need to be and began to contact designers. Jen Soik, a close friend and fellow music lover had the excitement, talent and most importantly, the follow through needed for a project of this scale.

The final product is Lost In Concert: Volume One — a 154-page, 10-inch by 8-inch, perfect bound, softcover book. The cover printed matte black and overlayed with a spot UV varnish texture and hand-applied custom satin fabric tour pass sticker on the front.

We encourage you to take a look at the Kickstarter page we set up to raise the funding needed to get the book produced. There are different giving levels with different incentives fit for just about everyone.

Bring Your Photos To Life With 3D Wall Photos

Custom-Bride-Groom
Industrial Designer and Rhode Island School of Design alum Mark Ellingwood has recently launched his new line of 3D Wall Photos which can currently be seen at Kickstarter., the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects.

Since the dawn of time people have been recording their physical world around them by means of drawings and photography. Although the image capture device has changed, one thing has remained constant in that the output whether it be camera obscura, B&W photos, color photos, or digital prints is that they are all two dimensional and flat. The world in which we live in is not flat so why should the memories of these places, people and events be? The 3D Wall Photos are intended to step beyond the boundaries of flat photos by creating greater depth and sense of realism.

Custom-Dogs-Canoe
Mark offers both stock and custom 3D Wall Photos in a number of different sizes and options. He uses the highest quality gallery wrapped canvasses to start creating depth. From there he digitally separates the important elements from each other and builds in information where there is none. This way you can look behind a person or an object and see what is behind them. Once the Photoshop work is done the layers are digitally printed on the highest quality papers then applied to a backer board for stability. Things get high tech here by laser cutting all the layers exactly around each object. This tool allows for the highest level of detail and precision that no hand tool could ever compete with. When all the layers are cut out they are then suspended over the canvas with spacers. Not all images are ideal for this process and photos that have people or objects that are fully in the frame tend to be better candidates. If a person or object is missing parts Mark is able to recreate the missing information as seen in the Father and Son on Cliff’s image as well as the Dogs in the Canoe.
