Bring Your Photos To Life With 3D Wall Photos

Industrial Designer and Rhode Island School of Design alum Mark Ellingwood has recently launched his new line of 3D Wall Photos which can currently be seen at Kickstarter., the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects.

Since the dawn of time people have been recording their physical world around them by means of drawings and photography. Although the image capture device has changed, one thing has remained constant in that the output whether it be camera obscura, B&W photos, color photos, or digital prints is that they are all two dimensional and flat. The world in which we live in is not flat so why should the memories of these places, people and events be? The 3D Wall Photos are intended to step beyond the boundaries of flat photos by creating greater depth and sense of realism.

Mark offers both stock and custom 3D Wall Photos in a number of different sizes and options. He uses the highest quality gallery wrapped canvasses to start creating depth. From there he digitally separates the important elements from each other and builds in information where there is none. This way you can look behind a person or an object and see what is behind them. Once the Photoshop work is done the layers are digitally printed on the highest quality papers then applied to a backer board for stability. Things get high tech here by laser cutting all the layers exactly around each object. This tool allows for the highest level of detail and precision that no hand tool could ever compete with. When all the layers are cut out they are then suspended over the canvas with spacers. Not all images are ideal for this process and photos that have people or objects that are fully in the frame tend to be better candidates. If a person or object is missing parts Mark is able to recreate the missing information as seen in the Father and Son on Cliff’s image as well as the Dogs in the Canoe.

The quality and overall presentation of these 3D wall photos are unlike anything anyone, anywhere else is doing. Learn more about Mark and his project at:
