Photo Profile: Beverly Washington

My name is Beverly Washington. I returned to school to study photography in a sense to follow a dream that I have never seen as out of reach. Modeling was always something that interested me when I was much younger, but as I say now, it is nice being in front of a camera as well as being behind one, either way it’s a great feeling to express what one may feel.

Now my interest is a landscape photographer, hopefully this will be a career I will take full control of. My interest as a photographer can be diverse but I enjoy being free on what I do as a photographer and landscape is my specialty. Photography is a passion, I guess to a degree it shows in my work. Before I got serious about photography I always thought it was an easy task, how wrong I was – it goes much deeper than that. To be a good photographer the feelings must come from within. I have been told I take beautiful images. But it’s a matter of keeping a level head and always trying to do better than the day before on all scales. It is a daily learning process. What has truly captured my heart about photography is just a feeling I get when I hold my camera in my hands, I cannot put this into words but believe it’s a GREAT feeling. To become a rated photographer is what I am focusing on. I enjoy shooting images in natural light (sunshine). And I have learned the word photography means “writing with light”. I am not so much of a Photoshop fan other than putting my logo on my work. I like shooting images as natural. I do not like to alter my work. I feel if I did I would be taking something away from my images. When I shoot and run my images off on print, I see what I’ve captured without being altered – just the natural image I captured with the naked eye.

What has manifested me as a photographer is the beauty it can bring, not just from my point as an artist – but from how it makes me feel when I am shooting. I enjoy landscape photography – I see when an image is captured right it can and will hold dear to one’s heart. My influence will consist of being good at what I do. If I can’t be the best I definitely will settle for being noticed for my work. My aspirations as an artist will be to do some international photography work. This is very important – where would the world be without photography? It could not connect – the world would be blank. From my view as a photographer what makes it so beautiful is the feeling I get — just to imagine or think just one special image can change my life as a photographer.
