Photo Profile: Elizabeth James — Colour in Motion

January 10, 2012 By Scott 1 Comment

Colour in Motion is a new collection of fine art photography being exhibited at Debut Contemporary on Westbourne Grove, London, from the 1st of February 2012.

Elizabeth James, a self-taught fine art photographer and Twickenham resident is to display new and original art works as part of an exhibition at Debut Contemporary, co-founded by Samir Ceric & Zoe Knight, alongside talented upcoming Debut Artists including, Maya Cochrane, Natalie Percy and Nathan Khan.

Elizabeth James has studied the art of photography since childhood and recently had her first solo exhibition Form Follows Function at Free Space Gallery in London, which explored the forms of various subjects and showcased a collection of fine art nude.

Elizabeth is currently working on projects locally that will encompass art as a means to heal and promote well-being in the community. Elizabeth’s work often involves taking a closer look at her subjects, isolating, showcasing and simply conveying the atmosphere in an instant often missed by the naked eye.

The new body of work further explores her favourite subject water; her approach to this subject is varied and often experimental. She has always felt drawn to water and has spent many years experimenting and observing closely its many varied forms it adopts in different circumstances.

Introducing colour during the process of capturing her findings has allowed Elizabeth James to study and record colour in motion, transforming shapes & colours as it freely takes its own direction and tones. The colours, carrying little or no commitment and the ebb and flow of the water takes on the body of life taking us out of our sphere of influence and bringing others in to it.
