My name is Luís Novo; I’m a 39 years old guy living in Lisbon, which is a blessing for me because Lisbon fills my soul. After all these years and I’m still in love with it. With the sound of church bell towers and seagulls, the fresh smell of the sea, or its unique light, Lisbon is, and will always be, my base, my ground, my own self.
But this sense, you could say, of love, only came with traveling, by exploring other places, knowing other cultures, and understanding other realities.
The dream of traveling grew in me so I studied Tourism and become a guide. It seemed obvious to me: If you want to know the world, join the tourism business. For ten years I worked as a guide. I had the opportunity to travel around the world and I learned that every place has its uniqueness, its own beauty, which can be expressed in a variety of forms and styles. Travel allows you to widen your borders of knowledge. It makes it easier to put things into perspective and, many times, you become conscious of everything you already have compared to others, around the world, that are just trying to survive. Having said this, travel is to learn, to grow and for a photography addict like me, to have the possibility of capturing the moment and transform it in a memory for life.
But you know what? After 10 years Lisbon got the better of me. I became tired of my job and changed my direction. Now I’m working on social media and loving it – completely different and new from what I was doing but I love a good challenge and as in travel, I’m still learning, still growing and, of course, still capturing the moment. In photographic terms, Lisbon and its surroundings became my “core business”. Nevertheless, I am always open to new destinations.
I have Icarus aspirations; I put myself 100% into everything I do – very passionate and, in that way, very heart-warming. I’m always trying to follow my instincts: Sometimes you fail but failure is good if it comes as part of the learning process. Because one thing I know for sure, only the mediocre don’t fail and just because they don’t even try.
I like everything in photography but I must say I have a particular passion for portraits, landscapes and architecture. Unfortunately, my love for photography is relatively new and, for that, I lost huge opportunities during trips I had but, what can you say? I’m just glad that now I have the opportunity and I am always look forward.
You already know, like everybody else in photography, I’m also still learning, growing, trying to do better.
In the end, I’m a proud Portuguese; trying to live, not survive, before dying.
