Notworkrelated is a collaboration of two UK photographers Helen Roscoe and David Rutter. Our work-related lives see David as a graphic designer and Helen as a fashion and portrait photographer. So far Notworkrelated has provided us with the platform to explore and put our work-related lives on hold whilst we travel around the world… or at least big parts of it!
We wanted to put a stop to the presures of work life and do something for ourselves. An adventure that would provide us with inspiration for future projects as well as seeking out cultural learning’s from countries afar.
Whilst figuring out the logistics of a trip several thousand miles long we conculded that we did not want to carry our SLRs and draw lots of attention. So we sold what we could and “downsized” to a Leica M9. Travel photography done in the best possible way, light weight, discrete and just plain fun to use.
We stayed in lots of hostels throughout Asia as well as homestays with local people, from China to Laos to Cambodia we were welcomed into their homes and treated as one of their own. We get asked all the time where are the best places we have visited and we can say with confidence that no-where has been a dissapointment, when you are exploring new and unseen places for the first time.
We want this project to be a platform to inspire people to do something different. It doesn’t need to be a Round the World Trip, but for people to keep their eyes open and go to places that they have never been before, you might just see or learn something new.
Notworkrelated is the chance to document what we see, hear, smell, taste and touch and communicate this back to all the people who haven’t broken away from their work related lives just yet! So far we have travelled in Asia for 5 months and are set to fly to Los Angeles for a completely different taste of culture in August which will commence the next 8 months of our Notworkrelated lives. Destinations include USA, Canada, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Australia, South East Asia, Nepal and India.
